Intellectual Persecution or What?

Persecution and exploitation seems negative words in our dictionaries but most of us remain really unaware of it however facing it in our everyday life chores.

Majeed being a talented young professional completed his masters from a well reputed university and scored high grades too. He seems ambitious about fulfillment of his goals in life and therefore started looking for a decent opportunity to prove himself. After a struggle of few months he finally got shortlisted and offered an opportunity but not according to his qualification and skills. He felt disheartened but due to insecure financial position accepted the offer and joined the organization. Everyday he reluctantly left for his workplace and came back home walking heavily without any happiness in his eyes and smile on his face.

One night while he was sleepless he asked this question to himself Am I being exploited intellectually? The answer he received from his heart was surprisingly in positive. He remained in shock for sometime but was unable to figure out what to do? He thought of looking for some online opportunity to earn something reasonable as told by some of his friends who were already earning. Majeed possessing reasonable level of writing skills as he use to write for his college magazine therefore he got selected for an online content writing assignment on contract basis. He was happy now that at least through this his writing capacity will not only improve at the same time he will earn something extra in his free time.

He started working on the assignment which was mailed to him. The assignment was not directly related to his field of study but somehow he thought that he can manage after doing considerable research on internet. He started off very enthusiastically and kept on mailing his tasks as they get done before deadline and he was rather doing extra work with the feeling of earning extra bonus too. After doing whole one month hard work he mailed the employer for his pay cheque. In response to his mail he received no reply he was astonished and sent another mail but no reply from his employer again. He called him but the phone was off. Now, he started smelling something fishy fishy and called his friend and told him his story. Surprisingly, his friend facing the same situation as well and both the friends were heart broken as their effort and time went down the drain probably.

Majeed got annoyed and tried to probe into the matter to find out the real story behind the scene. Unfortunately, the employer was stationed somewhere far away therefore it was difficult for him to go there too.

The same question again came to his mind and this time a more convincing feeling came to his mind. What was the feeling or thought he had? Yes, this is intellectual persecution, leading to emotional, spiritual, physical, moral all types of exploitation. This persecution boosts our emotional stress level leading to frustration and desperation.

Undoubtedly, we are living in technological age with immense facilities of information and knowledge lying around us keeping us aware about our surroundings but the issue lies in the usage of these contemporary resources these days.

However, people have become mind smart and educated but primarily look for short cut methods of success. They consider possession of money and material things as success, the only purpose of life. Which is certainly not true at all. There are many rich people who are very unhappy in life and look for care, attention, love and time even for themselves which they are unable to acquire even spending millions. They simply have no idea what is true happiness in life, where it lies and how it can be acquired etc.

Exploiting human intellect, emotions, morals and any kind of persecution is certainly a crime of digital age. Real contentment of heart lies in moving in life with patience, consistency in effort but with good intention every time, avoid using short cut methods to gain success, serve more and keep our desires to just fulfilling our needs all the rest belongs to others who are far more deserving than us.

Forget and forgive quickly and than you will feel the difference in your life. Be happy in what you have but do  follow your goals and ambitions as one day if you remain persistent you will achieve them as no effort ever goes waste and this is my personal experience.

Hard work always pays indeed, so keep striving for better and keep achieving.

  1. Ayesha, thanks for highlighting the issue. Intellectual exploitation is very common these days in our society, but worst part is people are unable to voice themselves.
The rule for online work is always take payment in advance.

    1. Yes, indeed not only online work rather in all types of business we must acquire something in advance to keep ourselves secure. Exploitation however will keep hitting us provided we remain aware and keep raising our voice against it.
